Free time – Being active in Storkow

Our goal is to bring Storkow (Mark) and its surrounding area closer to visitors and locals alike. The holiday region, with its abundance of rivers, lakes and woodland, offers ample opportunities for horse-riding, fishing, boating, cycling or simply relaxing.

Cycling

A good 265 kilometres of cycle paths attract many visitors to our region with its many forests and lakes. In the west, the Dahme-Heideseen Natural Park borders on the Baruther Urstromtal glacial valley; to the east, the magnificent valley of the River Schlaube is a great draw. In the north, the ranges of hills known as the Rauener and Dubrower Berge guarantee a variety of hill-climbing opportunities and excellent views. Further south, the varied landscape of the Spreewald is another attractive option. In springtime, cyclists traditionally flock to Storkow, and the first Sunday in September sees thousands participating in the Rad-Scharmützel cycling event, a true experience for everyone on two wheels, offering entertainment and culinary delights around the Scharmützelsee and Lake Storkow.

Water sports

The Bundeswasserstraße – the German federal waterway – cuts through the Storkow region, connecting Berlin with the Scharmützelsee. The charming lakes and canals between the capital and this lake draw motorboats, canoes, sailing boats and rowing boats to Storkow. Passenger boats pick up visitors from the landing stage at the lakeside beach in Seestraße. For a quick break – to pop into the shops or grab something to eat – a mooring has been set up right beside the lock in Storkow town centre.

Irrlandia – the activity park in Storkow-Neu Boston

In the warmer months of the year, this nature-based adventure park invites the whole family to a day of hiding, seeking, playing, running, climbing, creeping, scrabbling, swinging, bouncing, building, tinkering, splashing and throwing. Every year, there is a maze – of maize one year, of sunflowers the next – and every other year the park plays host to the Brandenburg Straw Festival, participated in by members of the European Stork City Organisation. Entertainment is organised by “Lollypop”, the Berlin-based not-for-profit children’s and youth organisation.
